Psychotherapy is a journey of self-discovery, self-exploration, and self- awareness. My approach centers around a belief in the healing and transformative power that these tools can bring. With guidance and support, we can become aware of aspects of ourselves that we never really knew before. Sometimes, the work reveals more of our natural gifts, talents and strengths than we ever thought were possible before. Sometimes the work uncovers parts of ourselves that we would rather keep hidden and unknown.
We all have patterns of behavior and thoughts that may have served and protected us well in our past. However, these patterns are now, often, merely outdated, out of context, and/or out of proportion to the current situation: anxiety, depression, dissociation, denial, aggression, defensiveness, passive-aggression, and relationship problems. Our habitual patterns are often unseen to us, but still present in ways that undermine what we want in life, our goals, our aspirations and our dreams.
I offer a supportive, compassionate style and a strong and steady presence for our work together. I also skillfully and thoughtfully address the emotional, cognitive, and behavioral patterns that keep you feeling stuck. Together we will work to compassionately understand what is no longer working in your life and look to discover different ways of responding and relating to yourself and others.
Change is not easy and requires a commitment from both of us. I think it takes great courage to do this work and face one’s own life in a new and different way. I see therapy as a time to slow down, consider what is most important in your life, reflect on what makes your life meaningful and purposeful. And as a result, living becomes good.
